Funds to support Community Gardens!

The Centre Wellington Food Bank, the Social Justice Group’s partner in the Centre Wellington Alliance for Good Food, has obtained a $3,300 grant to support community gardens in Centre Wellington this year. The grant is from Food Banks Canada and Compass Group Canada.

In this grant, there are funds to respond to the needs of the different community gardens in Centre Wellington:

  • St James Commmunity Garden in Fergus
  • Thyme with God Community Garden in Fergus
  • Bungalow 55 Community Garden in Elora
  • Gryphon Garden in Elora
  • Community Garden @ Faith Lutheran in Fergus
  • Community Garden @ the Food School in Fergus
  • Community Garden @ Central Pentecostal in Elora (in development)
  • Community Garden @ Little Tree Market Garden in Fergus (in development)

Some Community Gardens have taken advantage of composted manure from Grand River Raceway barns, composted for 5 years at the Shoemaker farm just outside Elora, and delivered by the Elora & Salem Horticultural Society. Others are interested in rain barrels and hoses, seedlings, tools to share, and pollinator plants.

A community dinner is tentatively planned for the fall to celebrate the growing season and the harvest. Stay tuned.
